Murugan is the son of Durga and Shiva. He is the embodiment of youthful vigor, beauty, and valor. He is also known as Subhramanya, Skanda, Kartikeya, and Senani (Commander in chief of God’s army). His varada mudra (blessing hand) assures the devotees not to be afraid of any difficulty in life and inspires all devotees to trust in God and to perform the right duty. Special events in the temple include: Monthly Abhisekam (ritual bath) on second Saturdays, Tai Pusam (in the Tamil month of Thai – Jan/Feb), and Skanda Sashti (Oct/Nov).
