Mahavira

Mahavira (6th Century BCE) renounced his kingdom and family, and spent 12 years as an ascetic deep in meditation. He gave utmost respect to all living beings and taught the practice of non‑violence in thoughts, words, and actions. He is the last of the 24 Tirthankaras of Jainism. Tirthankara or Jina (Victor) is one who has crossed over life’s stream of rebirths and guides others. Tirthankaras revitalize Jain society with monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen. Special events in the temple include: Mahavira‑Jayanti celebrated during May–June.
