Riding on a lion and adorned with weapons in her eight hands, Durgā is the personification of supreme power (Mahāśakti). In this form, she destroyed demon Mahiṣāsura, the worst enemy of divine beings. Durgā protects devotees by destroying evil forces (inner demons) such as lust, anger, greed, pride, prejudice, hatred, ego, and attachment. She is consort of Lord Śiva. Special events in the temple include: Durgā Pūjā during Navarātri (nine nights) in the Fall season and Mātā ki Cauki (four hour singing of her glory), every month.
