Riding on a lion and adorned with weapons in her eight hands, Durga is the personification of supreme power (Mahashakti). In this form, she destroyed demon Mahishasura, the worst enemy of divine beings. Durga protects devotees by destroying evil forces (inner demons) such as lust, anger, greed, pride, prejudice, hatred, ego, and attachment. She is consort of Lord Shiva. Special events in the temple include: Durga Puja during Navaratri (nine nights) in the Fall season and Mata ki Chauki (four‑hour singing of her glory), every month.
